Disney’s First Black Princess

April 13, 2007 · 2 Comments

When I read this I could not believe it.  Disney is coming out with an animated film that features a black princess-Maddy.  There are so many reasons why I like this movie.

  • The movie takes place in New Orleans.  If any where deserves to shine right now is New Orleans.
  • It’s from the people who did the “Little Mermaid” and “Aladdin”
  • The movie is hand drawn, and not computer animated.  That is new in the present, almost all ‘animated’ films are computer done.
  • It’s like a broadway musical.  I love it.

Hmm… I don’t know about this…. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see…. though the prospect of another possible classic Disney *is* exciting.
But… I don’t get why, everywhere I look, this story is titled “Disney’s first black princess”. Is it really that big a deal? :S

I think it’s a big deal. The fact that disney has not had a movie with a black princess. I did not even think about it until the story came out. Then I thought ” hey, there is not one!” Is the world ready? Will the movie be as successful as other Disney movies?
