Our department just got a new coordinator and he is ok. But he is getting to be a little controlling. I know there is no boss that is going to be perfect, but I have to equip myself to handle him. Here is what I plan on doing.
- detailing each step of every process to him (so he knows exactly what I am doing)
- create a plan B (when in doubt have an alternative)
- Never act to verbal abuse or harsh critcism with emotion (This one is going to be tough for me. I am not at all tactful and I wear my emotions. The key is not to react, but to acknowledge it and move on)
- Discuss (Everything that’s an issue will be turned into a discussion)
- Manage the manager (Make sure I know what he wants before that task is even started)
- Document everything
- When all else fails, I am going to leave work at work.
